Redpath Mongolia LLC has a future opening for a Construction Supervisor to join their dynamic team at the Oyu Tolgoi Project in Mongolia.  The site is situated in Southern Mongolia in the heart of the Gobi Desert flatlands.
 
Closing: May 6, 2024


Location: Oyu Tolgoi

Rotation: 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off *This rotation is subject to change.  


Shift Length: 12 hours

Job Description
The primary role of the Construction Supervisor is to plan, organize and control the underground construction activities as directed on a shift by shift basis, to ensure the allocated projects are completed in accordance to company standards, site standards and safety practices. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to delivering the allocated projects on time and in a safe manner and to provide oversight and assistance with national workforce through construction mentoring and training programs.


Roles and Responsibilities

 

General:

  • Assist with clarifying or defining parameters and deciding on construction processes to be utilized through daily handover meetings.
  • Attend the daily shift meetings with the DCM national supervisor to convey all construction works to the OT Mine Co-ordinator and establish interactions and potential delays.
  • Ensure that the works undertaken is as per allocated work orders (planned or unplanned works).
  • Communicate with the national supervisors on all daily work allocations, site interactions and allocation of resources for daily tasks.
  • Mentor national supervisors and national workforce on construction methodology and shift planning. Allow for maximum supervision time in the field (approximately 75% of shift in field).
  • Work with the national supervisors to ensure that all work is conducted in a safe manner and to the pre-established work methodologies. This includes all isolations and communication of works to all other departments in the underground operations.
  • Complete daily shift reports to provide progress on the UG construction projects, highlighting construction delays, scope change and training.
  • Complete work status brief document at the end of each shift to be used for handover between crews.
  • Work with national supervisors to provide the material coordinators with material requirements for the upcoming projects. Utilize the daily shift work status brief to request materials with realistic durations.
  • Take appropriate action as critical dates approach to ensure a smooth transition from phase to phase and the ultimate completion of project within the allocated time frames.
  • Co-ordinate daily work activities based on the weekly work schedule and advise supervisors of delays and critical interactions.
  • Develop and lead crew to achieve planned objective/s.
  • Supervise national workforce by working with them in the field on the allocated projects.
  • Work with the national supervisors to ensure construction compliance to standards, procedures and design intent required in the work orders.
  • Ensure solid understanding of construction requirements (including documentation and information), expectations, and timing of construction and required materials. Ensure that the shift crews have current and accurate work orders, drawings and specifications for the allocated work.
  • Ensure that the construction workforce is working efficiently on all allocated works and provide mentoring to improve ways work can be continued in a safe efficient manner.
  • Work with the national supervisors to ensure that all training requirements are completed, all required training has been booked and personnel attend.

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Follow Company and Oyu Tolgoi’s site health and safety standards and report any unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Responsible to ensure the proper use and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Comply with Oyu Tolgoi’s Critical Risk Management (CRM) requirements.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

 

Education/Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

 

Work Experience/Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Underground Construction Supervisor.
  • Must understand underground work environment.
  • Must understand responsibilities of leadership.
  • Ability to multi task and work effectively with people from all nationalities.
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Able to work in team environment, and lead by example.
  • Willing to mentor and train others.
  • Willing to be trained in other aspects of the supervision role.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and work documentation.
  • Basic understanding of Mine Regulations pertaining to task.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessment of specific task.
  • Understanding of work related procedures and standards.
  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems as required.
  • Understanding of safety standards and procedures.
