Job Summary:

 

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Safety/Training Supervisor is to provide the necessary resources and support required to enable field personnel to meet all Redpath, Client and legislative requirements relating to Health and Safety in the workplace.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review emergency procedures with employees regularly at safety meetings and with JHSC and obtain written records with names, dates, and signatures;
  • Document and post minutes of safety meetings in addition to response(s) to employee questions/concerns
  • Participate in planned inspections, critical task procedure development, and incident/accident reporting
  • Participate and assist the coordination of workers for safety days and specialized training
  • Conduct safety training and education programs, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment
  • Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices, in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, and first-aid supplies
  • Provide new-employee health and safety orientations, and develop materials for these presentations
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials
  • Investigate accidents to identify causes and to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future
  • Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance.
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health and safety.
  • Maintain and update emergency response plans and procedures
  • Conduct audits at hazardous waste sites or industrial sites, and participate in hazardous waste site investigations
  • Investigate health-related complaints, and inspect facilities to ensure that they comply
  • Conduct safety training for workers
  • Plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with company standards and provincial/federal rules and regulations
  • Act as the liaison with all safety regulatory agencies

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Some or all of the following certifications are required:
  • Train the Trainer
  • FMTM (Quebec Common Core)
  • CHSC and/or CRSP designation or actively pursuing
  • Permis Général d’Explosifs or able to obtain one as soon as possible

 

Skills and Qualification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Formal training in a Safety Program with an associated designation
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an underground mining environment
  • Experience and knowledge with local mine regulations specific to Newfoundland/Labrador (asset)
  • Successfully completes a Train-The-Trainer program
  • Ability to conduct audits and risk assessments
  • Ability to prepare work-related procedures and standards
  • Ability to adapt to a varying work environment often requiring the employee to develop new and innovative work methods
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Experience in a healthcare-related field is an asset.
  • Experience with training and program development is an asset
  • Computer application and MS Office proficiency
  • Survey and sampling knowledge
  • Ability to interpret and apply all applicable legislation, standards, and guidelines pertaining to Mining Regulations, clients and Redpath
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, both orally and in writing, including formal reports

 

Health and Safety:

Have the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment

Follow Company and Client health and safety standards and report all unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor

Responsible for the use and maintenance of all safety equipment, i.e. PPE, lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation

Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment

Ensure that workers are qualified and capable to safely performing the assigned work

Work in accordance with local legislation
