Job Summary:

 

Under the supervision of the Lead Miner and/or Shift Supervisor, the primary role of the Mechanized Bolter is to inspect existing underground headings, scale loose rocks and install ground support to stabilize rock mass and ensure safety using mechanized bolting equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and rectify unsafe conditions in underground headings

  • Drill holes using mechanized bolting equipment

  • Install resin rebar using mechanized bolting equipment

  • Install other ground support components as required such as welded wire mesh, straps, cable bolts or swellex

  • Keep track of all work progress and communicate to supervisors and cross shifts status of workplace

  • Must be able to comprehend written Engineering prints and verbal instructions as required to perform assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner

  • Must be able to perform pre-operational inspections on equipment and operate in as afe and efficient manner

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)

  • 2 years or more experience with mechanized bolting equipment in an underground mining environment

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a underground miner
  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core – Full Basic (or other provincial equivalent) (required)

Required Specialty Modules: U0018 (or other provincial equivalent) (preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability to read mine plans and specifications for underground mining

  • Ability to multi task and work effectively

  • Ability to make decisions quickly

  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently

  • Ability to adapt to a varying work environment often requiring the employee to develop new and innovative work methods

  • Good communication skills

 

Health and Safety:

  • Have the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment

  • Follow Company and Client health and safety standards and report all unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor

  • Responsible for the use and maintenance of all safety equipment, i.e. PPE, lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation.

  • Ensure permits are in place and lock 0ut tag out procedures are followed

  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.

  • Ensure that workers are qualified and capable to safely performing the assigned work

  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.

  • Work in accordance with local legislation
