Redpath Mongolia LLC has an opening for a Senior Project Engineer to join their dynamic team at the Oyu Tolgoi Project in Mongolia.  The site is situated in Southern Mongolia in the heart of the Gobi Desert flatlands.

Location: Oyu Tolgoi


Rotation: 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off *Due to current Covid-19 travel restrictions, the rotation is subject to change.  Current rotation for government-mandated quarantine is as follows: 2 weeks of quarantine on entry to Mongolia; 6 weeks of work inclusive of any Government-mandated quarantine when returning to home country; 3 weeks off.  Subject to change.


Shift Length: 12 hours

Compensation: Redpath offers a comprehensive wage and benefit package

Job Description:

The primary role of the Senior Project Engineer is to focus on the project management process including risk and safety management and managing site projects from concept to completion. Significant importance is placed on the training and mentoring of the Mongolian National workforce throughout all processes.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and manage engineering projects and continuous improvement programs to optimize production and reduce project costs
  • Control engineering activities to maintain work standards, adhere to timelines and meet quality assurance targets
  • Support project leaders throughout decision-making by providing regular compliance reports to drive process improvement and corrective measures
  • Liaise with project leaders to acquire resources to move projects forward
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate underground initiatives in accordance with guidance from client
  • Supervise and coach Project Engineers along with the Mongolian national workforce
  • Perform all functions related to Drill & Blast: Design, Calculations, Simulation, QA/QC, Forensics on Failed Rounds, and Optimizations of Current Practice
  • Provide technical support, quality, and environmental control of the works in accordance with the contract specification and the relevant statutory regulations
  • Plan and program the works under the Contract to optimize efficiency and productivity and to minimize cost
  • Coordinate and direct subcontractors and suppliers as required

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors (B.Sc.) degree in Mining Engineering from a recognized college or university
  • Minimum 6 years' experience as a mining engineer with exposure to all facets of underground hard rock mining
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in an underground environment in a similar role
  • Knowledge of safety management and systematic approach
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Previous experience mentoring and developing junior engineers
  • Mine development and project optimization experience
  • Skilled in mine software applications
