Redpath Mongolia LLC has an opening for a Mine Development Manager to join their dynamic team at the Oyu Tolgoi Project in Mongolia.  The site is situated in Southern Mongolia in the heart of the Gobi Desert flatlands.

Location: Oyu Tolgoi


Rotation: 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off *Due to current Covid-19 travel restrictions, the rotation is subject to change.  Current rotation for government-mandated quarantine is as follows: 2 weeks of quarantine on entry to Mongolia; 6 weeks of work inclusive of any Government-mandated quarantine when returning to home country; 3 weeks off.  Subject to change.


Shift Length: 12 hours

Job Description:

 

  • The Mine Development Manager is responsible for the leadership of the mining team and the safe execution of the full UDS contract scope inclusive of Lateral and Mass excavation, Infrastructure, UDS related logistics and materials control, and raise drilling. This position works closely with the Dayan and Oyu Tolgoi Engineering/Scheduling team to ensure that planning, resource scheduling, and schedule execution of targets are met. All Mining related activities such as personnel management, role definition and responsibilities, and personnel skill development fall under role responsibilities.
  • The role is also responsible for assisting the Project Manager for all facets that relate to optimization of the project, KPI performance, and management of resourcing for all mining related activities.
  • As the Mine Development Manager, identification and implementation of training activities and programs to enable nationalization and succession planning is a primary responsibility.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

 

General:

  • Supervise and interact (Visible Felt Leadership) with members of the Mining team underground to ensure compliance to safety and working standards;
  • Ensure planning practices are adhered to in order to maintain scope and delivery, and efficient interaction between UDS teams (raisebore, infrastructure, lateral development, mass excavation) to achieve all project goals as per priority;
  • Analyze variance to performance and develop plans to meet schedule and deliverables;
  • Identify, support and lead Continuous Improvement initiatives to increase
  • Ensure best practice for mobile equipment operator preventative maintenance is in place (washing, pre-start inspection) and ensure equipment is available when scheduled for preventative maintenance
  • Make contact with client management at key points through the project (i.e. weekly, progress meetings) to ensure that Mining deliverables are meeting client requirements;
  • Ensure that training is planned, budgeted, and implemented for resources assigned to the project;
  • Ensure that succession planning for key Mining positions is in place to develop National leadership;
  • Ensure proper manning of the project is in alignment with forecasted expansion to facilitate skill training;
  • Provide input into the project monthly KPI reports with respect to achievement and issues of concern, and recommend changes if required to achieve overall objectives;
  • Meet with team members on a regular basis to provide guidance with project deliverables and ensure compliance to project milestones;
  • Coordinate with procurement to ensure adequate delivery of materials to underground to support development crews and perform regular reviews;
  • Be a positive role model to teach best mining practices and most importantly, lead by example.

 

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Ensure employee safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations, as well as company policy and regulations;
  • Ensure all employees have the knowledge to work safely and efficiently and employees receive job specific instructions on a daily basis and monitor progress;
  • Ensure mining incidents are adequately investigated and learnings are effectively implemented;
  • Ensure the mine safety systems are executed by mining personnel as per plan to high quality;
  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Follow Company and Oyu Tolgoi’s site health and safety standards and report any unsafe acts or conditions
  • Responsible to ensure the proper use and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Comply with Oyu Tolgoi’s Critical Risk Management (CRM) requirements.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a mining related discipline or equivalent experience is desirable
  • 10+ years’ working with hard rock experience, progressive responsibility at a Supervisory level;
  • 2+ years’ Superintendent experience on a major project;
  • Expatriate work experience is desired;
  • Experience in development of a national workforce is a desired;
  • Experience working in a Block Cave Mine is a plus.
