Redpath Mongolia LLC has an opening for a Project Manager to join their dynamic team at the Oyu Tolgoi Project in Mongolia.  The site is situated in Southern Mongolia in the heart of the Gobi Desert flatlands.
 

Closing:  August 30, 2021


Location: Oyu Tolgoi

Rotation: 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off *Due to current Covid-19 travel restrictions, the rotation is subject to change.  Current rotation for government-mandated quarantine is as follows: 2 weeks of quarantine on entry to Mongolia; 6 weeks of work inclusive of any Government-mandated quarantine when returning to home country; 3 weeks off.  Subject to change.

Shift Length: 12 hours

Compensation: Redpath offers a comprehensive wage and benefit package

Travel: Flights provided from point of hire to job site

Job Description:  The Project Manager in Mongolia is accountable to the Site General Manager for the safe, efficient, legally compliant and profitable operation of the underground operations of the contract/s that are under their supervision that are related to lateral development and/or construction activities together with the associated staff and facilities.  The incumbent will provide leadership, development, and direction to his/her staff to ensure that the business objectives of Mongolia including safety, health, quality and profitability are consistently achieved.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

 

General

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Monitor and proactively implement change to ensure that the project is achieving Zero Harm
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of project baselines and project execution plans, inclusive of managing the setup of project administrative aspects
  • Manage project performance tracking through daily, weekly and monthly reports
  • Recommend action to be taken should there be deviations from the optimal performance
  • Propose and implement authorized operating and capital expenditure strategies that will enhance the financial position of the project
  • Provide leadership, development and direction to subordinate staff members to drive productivity improvement within the team, optimize resource utilization to achieve more with less, and ensure that the stretch business objectives of the UDS Project are consistently achieved
  • Review, interview, and hire subordinate senior leadership team members
  • Review and determine project schedules with collaboration with the Client representatives, manpower budget, cost budget, and cost control with Engineering
  • Liaise effectively with Client representatives as well as other contracting companies’ personnel
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPI’s) with Operations and/or Construction Management
  • Conduct periodic reporting and interactions with local and national government officials to ensure compliance to regulations

 

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Excellent understanding of all underground mining cycles involved in lateral development, mass excavations, and vertical development. This includes equipment, personnel, and schedule
  • Excellent understating of construction methodologies that will follow IFC drawings and comply with strict QA/QC site standards that will lead to effective commissioning of infrastructure
  • Firm understanding of Block Caving along with initiation of a cave is an asset
  • Good analytical skills of mining data to identify efficiencies in the process to increase overall safety and production metrics
  • Good conceptual skills in understanding relationships between projects, the overall organization and its environment, and how change in one part of the project affects the whole
  • Promote and support the Company’s management team
  • Practice and promote the Company’s Philosophy and Guidelines for Success
  • Highly effective motivational and organizational skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English
  • Very strong interpersonal skills in order to develop effective internal and external relationships
  • Effective conflict resolution skills
  • Able to work independently on complex tasks and non-routine matters

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

 

The incumbent will have a minimum 5-10 years of project management / controls experience in mining, shaft sinking, lateral development, or similar underground construction projects with a sound knowledge of contract principles and data manipulation into management information.

 

Education / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline from an accredited university
  • Project Management Certificate or similar certification is an asset

 

Work Experience / Skills

  • Able to interface with all cultures and levels of management and employees
  • Knowledge of business analytics, process mapping, and the ability to understand and implement effective workflows
  • Sound project management, planning and organizational skills, and able to manage competing priorities
  • Experience in dealing with difficult stakeholders where empathy and discretion is required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of and complete commitment to confidentiality
  • Strong computer, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Microsoft Office suite of products, in particular Outlook, Word, Excel, and Visio
  • Online meeting tools such as Skype, WebEx, and other meeting suites
