Redpath Mongolia LLC has an opening for a Specialist, Operations (Development Supervisor) to join their dynamic team at the Oyu Tolgoi Project in Mongolia.  The site is situated in Southern Mongolia in the heart of the Gobi Desert flatlands.

Location: Oyu Tolgoi

Rotation: 6 weeks on, 4 weeks off *Due to current Covid-19 travel restrictions, the rotation is subject to change.  


Shift Length: 12 hours

Job Description
The Specialist, Operations will provide technical knowledge, operations experience, guidance at a front-line supervisory level in the daily direction and efficient performance of development, load and haul, ventilation, roadwork and support related activities/functions on a daily shift basis in the attainment of short- and long-term project objectives. They also ensure employee adherence to Mongolian legislation related to Mining and Health, Safety and Environmental, and Company and Client policies, procedures and processes.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Coach the National Supervisors to organize, plan, lead and control all activities of the underground operations and encourage ownership.
  • Assist the National Supervisors with supervisory overview of all activities throughout the development mining cycle
  • Conduct daily reviews of the safety process and standard operating procedures
  • Provide guidance in overseeing the quality and inspecting the operation with regards to Client and Internal safety standards
  • Coach the National Supervisors with regards to hazard identification and/or mitigation and encourage the implementation of the remedial action.
  • Coach the National Supervisors to effectively manage operational, safety and emergency incidents
  • Maintain a high level of communication with mining and maintenance crews, both through supervision and directly with the work force
  • Coach the National Supervisors to ensure accurate information is relayed to Planning Team for shift scheduling purposes
  • Coach the National Supervisors in effective and efficient allocation of mining resources as measured by schedule compliance
  • Conduct constructive internal performance reviews on the National Supervisors
  • Provide guidance with regard to time management skills to the front-line crews and Supervisors.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • MInimum 10 years of progressive minig experience, with 5+ years in a supervisory role
  • Supervisory Common Core or equivalent
  • Expatriate work experience and the development of a national workforce is an asset
  • Degree in Mining Enginering preferred
  • Advanced Knowledge of mining development, ground support, shaft operations, mobile equipment, blasting and ventilation
  • An in-depth understanding of mine safety legislation and regulations
  • An in-depth understanding of underground mining practices, policies, procedures and standards
  • An in-depth understanding of underground equipment and emerging technologies
  • A sound understanding of human resource management and motivation practices and techniques
  • Knowledge of computer programs including standard office programs
  • Proven leadership skills including the ability to lead and motivate individuals and teams
