JOB SUMMARY

The Project Accountant primarily focuses on tracking, reporting, and analyzing the financial performance and progress of individual projects or contracts. A project accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of a project from planning to completion. This includes setting up and maintaining the project accounting system and records, preparing, and reviewing project budgets, forecasts, and cash flows, verifying invoices, payments, and expenses, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and policies. Additionally, the Project Accountant will, analyze variances and provide recommendations for improvement, support audits, and resolve discrepancies or issues. An essential part of the role is to ensure connectivity and alignment with Finance, Area Managers, Project Controls, Estimating, Payroll, Engineering, Contracts, and clients. In this context the jobholder will be expected to work with all of these functions in both a support and influencing/challenging capacity.

 

DUTIES

  1. Manages and analyzes the collection, recording, and allocation of project costs and revenue.
  2. Analyzes budgets and actual costs.
  3. Communicates financial performance to program managers and project executives.
  4. Maintain accounting documents in compliance with requirements.
  5. Ensures Compliance with financial rules and regulations.
  6. Analyze and apply the activities being performed with respect to engineering and construction accounting methodology and company practices.
  7. Review the required tasks and follow established written procedures and techniques to accomplish activities.
  8. Set-up and review the project structure in ERP application.
  1. Review the support, lead, and client invoicing .
  2. Review the cost, hours, and billing reconciliation, project close-out, project margin analysis reporting, cash management, and audit support.
  3. Assist with reviewing project reports and conducting detailed analyses of results.
  4. Prepare financial information for project reviews.
  5. Participate in month-end project review meetings.
  6. Liaise with the relevant Project Managers and Construction Managers regarding the actual results and booking appropriate accruals including revising costs to complete.
  7. Be the link between the Project team and the Finance team in Sparks, NV
  8. Develop solid relationships and effectively communicate with both internal and external clients to positively influence others and drive for results.
  9. Identify and resolve escalations or complex issues with strong emphasis on associated patterns, trends, and root cause analysis.
  10. If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
  11. Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards.
  12. Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  13. Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures on site.
  14. Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
  15. Complies with and ensures compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  16. Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week as required.
  17. Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Preferred professional certification, such as the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or the Project Management Professional (PMP).

 

Work Experience:

  1. Minimum of 2 years experience in an accounting field.
  2. Prefer project related experience in mining or construction.

 

Knowledge Required:

  1. Possess strong financial analysis skills.
  2. Strong skill of working on ERP systems.
  3. Ability to process computer data, format and generate reports.
  4. Working knowledge of tax codes and filings.
  5. Excellent proficiency working with Microsoft platforms, especially “excel” and JD Ewards accounting systems.
    1. Experience in Oracle Fusion preferred, not required.
  6. Able to demonstrate proficiency in budgeting, invoicing, billing, report writing, etc.
  7. Requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
