Job Description:

The Project Director is a recognized authority of the organization who is responsible for the overall operations and execution of the strategic direction/ vision on behalf of Redpath Australia and Redpath Americas.

 

Reporting to the Redpath Management Committee, the Project Director will have a strong background in mining engineering, project management, and team leadership, with a proven track record of delivering projects, safely, on time and within budget. The director will play a critical role in fostering collaboration between our partner companies, driving operational efficiency, and promoting a culture of safety and compliance.

 

The incumbent will be accountable for all aspects of Redpath’s operations at the Freeport mine site in Indonesia, including: - the successful planning and execution of the various components of the project scope while satisfying contractual obligations through focus on safety, quality, cost, and continuous improvement.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Operational Leadership:
  • Lead and direct all mining operations, ensuring alignment between Redpath Indonesia and Freeport
  • Satisfy all stakeholders by understanding the project’s key success factors and meeting the agreed upon expectations
  • Oversee project budgets and financial accountability, ensuring cost efficiency across all operations
  • Thoroughly understand contractual obligations of both Redpath Indonesia and Redpath Australia’s MSA’s
  • Lead and mentor a team of experienced project managers and staff
  • Manage key decisions in alignment with the client’s operational needs
  • Build and maintain a trusting relationship with Redpath Management Committee, PT RUC, PT Redpath Indonesia, Subcontractors and Suppliers.
  • Work closely with the client to understand their operational goals, provide regular updates on project status, and address any concerns promptly, ensuring alignment and satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle
  • Accountable for the implementation and ongoing execution of the projects systems and processes
  • Ensuring transparency of each of the projects under their control is provided to the Client and management teams
  • Serve as both a mentor and motivator to the Project Manager’s and Shared Services team to outperform their own expectations and to proactively support the development of people within the project teams.

 

  • Quality Management: Comply with all project quality expectations from the client

 

  • Performance Management:
  • Manage various project schedules and productivities to meet/exceed project deliverables
  • Manage process of budgeting, forecasting, and reporting in alignment with the contract
  • Representative on behalf of RUC and PTRI for change management matters that require elevation above the Project Manager
  • Lead organizational development for the PTRI and DRUC project teams
  • Directly accountable for the team retention and turnover through strong leadership skills and processes

 

  • Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, estimates and resource allocations to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness

 

  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure all operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations, promoting a safe work environment for all personnel

 

  • Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact and ensure project continuity

 

  • Performance Monitoring: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and regularly assess project performance against these metrics, implementing corrective actions as needed

 

  • Technical Oversight: Provide technical guidance and oversight throughout the project lifecycle, leveraging industry best practices and innovative solutions

 

  • Continuous Improvement: Develop a robust continuous improvement programs using the client’s production data gathering systems to improve execution efficiency, lower unit cost and optimize workforce compliment

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Background Required
  • Degree Qualified. (Mine Engineering, Geotechnical or related field)
  • Minimum of 5 years in Senior Management
  • 10 years underground mine development or construction experience
  • Project Management experience in a contracting environment

 

Advantageous: Business Management Qualification

 

  • Additional Requirements
  • Must be medically fit to work in an “underground”
  • Strong understanding of mining processes methodologies, equipment, and technologies.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale mining projects or contracts from initiation to completion.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making. Proficient in project management software and tools.

Reports to: Redpath Indonesia Management Committee

Direct Reports: Project Managers, Shared Services Department, Safety/Training Department

 

Additional Information

  • Overtime and frequent domestic and/or international travel is required
  • Other duties may be required as directed by the Management Committee
