The Alternate Underground Manager is responsible for performing the duties of the Underground Manager when the incumbent is not present. 

The focus is on achieving project objectives and targets to ensure the successful completion of the project, particularly all operations of the mine.  

This includes conducting project planning, managing, and resourcing the project, ensuring the health, safety, training, environmental and quality systems are successfully complied with, effective contract administration, the administration of cost control systems, managing the commercial interests of the project, tracking project deliverables, and providing leadership and direction to the project team.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • statutory ticket coverage during Underground Manager's rostered periods of absence from site;
  • provide clear coordination of technical planning functions to ensure achievement of Project objectives; 
  • implement LEAN/5S philosophies to lead the Project to achieve the project objectives and targets, ensuring the successful completion of the project; 
  • plan, coordinate, carry out and review all Project activity to achieve the Client's desired project outcomes;
  • identify, formulate and obtain approval of procedures required for Project specific tasks in a timely manner;
  • lead the project team clearly and professionally ensuring that each individual team member has an understanding of their daily, weekly and monthly tasks;
  • constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders; 
  • continually communicate and liaise with the Mine Manager to ensure clear understanding of compliance to targets and variances;
  • implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs; 
  • apply performance management to all employees ensuring the performance reviews are undertaken at least annually and poor performance/behaviour is dealt with promptly; 
  • ensure timely and accurate analysis and reporting on financial and production results on monthly basis;
  • attend and conduct (when required) pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, safety meetings, roster change and shift change meetings;
  • conduct Workplace Inspections (eg Take 5's/TTTCs) and JSA's when required;

 

About you:

  • minimum 5 years leadership experience at a senior level;
  • experience in a underground mining environment, preferably some in the contracting space;
  • tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mining) or related field;
  • have or be able to gain UG Mine Manager's certificate of competency (QLD); 
  • current RIIRIS301B- Apply risk management processes; RIIOHS301A Conduct safety and health investigations; & RIICOM302A - Communicate workplace information certificates (formerly S1, S2 & S3);
  • hold current Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM) qualifications;
  • solid commercial skills and experience in managing budgets, costs and resources whilst achieving timely project outcomes; 
  • outstanding people management and leadership skills in a large project environment; 
  • strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel and Planning software (Deswik);
  • strong safety, quality, and customer focus. 
  • ability to manage and develop subordinates;
  • solid planning and organisational skills;
