Main duties and responsibilities for this position:
- Safely and efficiently operate the jumbo for development driving, installing ground support, boring cable bolt holes, probe holes and any other work that is required.
- Up to date ground support profiles are to be kept on the rig and used as required.
- All current survey plans are to be kept on the rig and superseded plans destroyed immediately.
- Complete face mark-up sheets for each development face you bore and mark-up.
- Ensure to apply white mark up paint to each face creating a circle around any “butt” to prevent drilling into or within 15cm.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping (all cables off ground, hoses rolled and kept off ground where possible, excess ground support removed before firing, signs hung properly)
- Report all maintenance issues to the maintenance team as soon as practicable.
- Identify and promote suggestions to increase productivity and/or reduce operating costs.
- Communicate positively with other employees providing you with production and maintenance support.
- Cooperate, and assist other crew members to maximise productivity of the whole shift.
- Prepare the workplace for the oncoming shift person to continue operations without interference or obstruction.
- Report any “misfire” in any face with which you are required to bore into before commencing boring.
- Complete a “plod” at the end of each shift outlining the work completed during the shift.
Minimum requirements and experience required for this role:
- Driver’s Licence – Class C (and MR for driving bus if required).
- First Aid & CPR certificate.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience operating a Jumbo.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in Underground Mining.
- Safe and reliable operation of Jumbo to meet or exceed production requirements.
- The fitting, adjustment, and correct use of relevant personal protective equipment (based on site requirements).
- In-depth working knowledge of key safety and operational procedures, such as:
Danger Tags / Out of Service Tag rules.
Incident/Accident/Near Miss Reporting.
Hazard Reporting.
Safe lifting methods.
Correct use and location of Fire Fighting equipment.
Emergency response procedures.
Housekeeping standards.
Radio/Telephone operation.
Submitting work requests.
Safe mine driving and road rules; and
Hazardous chemicals (ie. characteristics, storage, handling, and treatment).
