The Mandate of the Superintendent - Safety and Training is to provide the necessary resources and support required to enable field personnel to meet all Redpath, Client and legislative requirements relating to Health and Safety in the workplace.

 

Closing: June 3, 2026

Location: Zacatecas, Mexico

Rotation: 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off

Shift Length: 12 hours

Compensation: Redpath offers a comprehensive wage and benefits package

Travel: Flights are provided from point of hire to jobsite

Conditions of Employment: Successful completion of pre-employment medical and substance abuse test

Roles and Responsibilities

Health and Safety:

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Follow Company health and safety standards and reports any unsafe acts or conditions
  • Responsible for the use of all safety equipment according to Company rules and applicable legislation and ensures the proper use of personal protective equipment


General:

  • Conduct workplace inspections and Redpath Safety Program audits at Redpath projects.
  • Participate in serious Injury and Incident Investigations.
  • Participate in project Risk Assessments.
  • Participate in new project safety start-ups.
  • Conduct injury/incident analysis.
  • Conduct Redpath specific training in the field such as Train the Trainer, PLCL etc.
  • Support Redpath field Safety Supervisors as a resource.
  • Regularly attend and participate in Ontario Mine Contractors Safety Association meetings.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of Redpath standard operating procedures.
  • Represent Redpath or the OMCSA on various industry technical advisory committees.
  • Advise senior management on matters relating to health and safety
  • Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information
  • The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive

 

Working Conditions, Physical and Mental Demands

Working Conditions:

  • Part of time is spent in an office environment; the majority of time is spent making numerous site visits underground
  • Exposure to deadlines, multiple demands, distractions/interruptions
  • Dealing with underground environment such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, noise, and fumes

 

Physical Demands:

  • Numerous trips to visit project sites both by car and air
  • Dealing with time changes associated with travel
  • Underground visits require physical activity such as walking on uneven ground, climbing, and the wearing additional personal protective equipment

 

Mental Demands:

  • Continuous mental effort required to analyze, organize, interpret and summarize information, data and documents
  • Continuous mental effort is required to multi-task and problem solve while maintaining focus on the project
  • Disruptions to family life due to extensive travel required.

 

Effort:

  • Operate computer, respond to inquiries, present information, read documents/materials, resolve conflicts, problem solve, facilitate meetings

 

 

Qualifications

Education:

Required:           Diploma/Certificate in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field

Preferred:           Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field, Member of the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) or possessing/working toward designation as Canadian Registered Safety Professional

 

Work Experience:

Required:     5-10 years’ experience in mining health and safety capacity

Preferred:    10 years’ experience in mining with HSE experience. Experience in the development and delivery of health and safety training programs and procedures.

  • Organization and planning abilities
  • Ability to interpret and apply all applicable legislation, standards, and guidelines pertaining to Mining Regulations, clients and Redpath
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, both orally and in writing, including formal reports
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a range of different disciplines
  • Teaching ability
  • Ability to source and understand evidence-based content material
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

 

Position Relationships

Reports to:  Manager, Health, Safety & Environment

Direct Reports: no direct reports

 

  • Provide safety support as required to all Americas based projects.

 

Project and/or Location Specific Requirements

  • Bilingualism is considered an asset for specific countries and locations

 

Some or all of the following certifications are required:

  • Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Miner – Common Core
  • Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Mining Specialty Module – Common Core
  • Train the Trainer
  • Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Front Line Supervisor – Common Core
  • FMTM (Quebec Common Core)
