Description:

The primary role of an electrician is to install, wire, maintain & perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs to electric equipment in surface and underground areas. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Capable of troubleshooting, diagnostics testing and interpretation, maintenance and repair of:
  • ventilation fans, underground dewater pumps, lighting, electric/hydraulic mobile equipment, PLC and communication equipment, electronics, high voltage and low voltage power and control systems and ground fault monitor systems;
  • Assist and carry out repairs and maintenance to all underground sub-stations;
  • Must be capable of hanging 4/0 cable overhead;
  • Fabricate electrical panels and other necessary installation of electrical cables;
  • Install electrical apparatus;
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned;

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an underground mining environment. Electrician Shaft Experience preferred.
  • Must be capable of reading & understanding electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Must have a good knowledge and understanding of the applicable electrical code and regulations.
  • Must be capable of reading and interpreting basic electrical instruments and testers.
  • Perform safely and timely emergency repairs to equipment.
  • NFPA70E certification required (or the ability to obtain).
  • Must be able to follow procedures to ensure safety and to control equipment damage.

 

Health and Safety:

  • Following Company health and safety standards, MSHA, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to Supervisor
  • Practice proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Work in accordance with local legislation
