MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Matric certificate / equivalent

Mine Overseer's Certificate of Competency.

Blasting Certificate & Shift Supervisor/Foreman certificate.

Postgraduate qualifications (MBA, MDP, PMP, or equivalent) will be advantageous.

Extensive experience in vertical sinking construction.

Minimum 15 years' experience in shaft sinking or mining environment.

Minimum 7–10 years' experience as a shift foreman/shift boss.

Proven experience managing large-scale projects and multidisciplinary teams.

Experience working in African mining environments is highly advantageous.

Experience managing expatriate and localization programmes.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide overall leadership and direction for all site operations.

Ensure projects and operational activities are executed safely, efficiently, and profitably.

Develop and implement operational plans, project schedules, and production strategies.

Ensure operational targets, project milestones, and contractual deliverables are achieved.

Coordinate all operational, engineering, maintenance, SHEQT, commercial, and support functions.

Monitor site productivity and implement improvement initiatives.

Drive operational excellence through effective planning, execution, and monitoring.

Ensure the effective utilization of labour, equipment, materials, and financial resources.

Identify operational risks and implement mitigation actions.

Monitor overall operational performance against approved business plans and KPIs.

Provide visible leadership and commitment to a zero-harm safety culture. Ensure compliance with: Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Act (Cap 44:02), Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Regulations, Employment Act (Cap 47:01), Workers’ Compensation legislation, Environmental legislation and permit conditions, Company SHEQT policies and procedures and Client standards and requirements

Ensure risk assessments, workplace inspections, and safety audits are conducted.

Ensure all incidents, accidents, and near misses are investigated and corrective actions implemented.

Promote environmental stewardship and sustainable operating practices.

Ensure legal appointments, competencies, certifications, and authorizations remain current and compliant.

Monitor SHEQT performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Ensure training and development plans support operational requirements and legislative compliance.

Manage project execution in accordance with contractual obligations and client expectations.

Monitor project scope, schedule, cost, and quality performance.

Review project progress and implement corrective actions where necessary.

Manage contract risks, claims, variations, and commercial implications.

Support tender evaluations and business development opportunities.

Ensure project documentation and deliverables meet contractual requirements.

Maintain strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

Lead and manage site management teams, supervisors, engineers, and support personnel.

Mentor and coach local employees to improve technical and leadership capability.

Facilitate skills transfer and workforce development programs, Implement succession planning and localization strategies.

Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and teamwork.

Manage workforce planning to ensure operational requirements are met.

Support employee engagement, retention, and talent development initiatives.

Manage performance, disciplinary, grievance, and labour-related matters in accordance with company policies and Botswana labour legislation. Ensure site operations comply with all legal, regulatory, contractual, and corporate requirements, Maintain operational governance and compliance systems.

Ensure statutory reports, permits, inspections, and records are completed and maintained.

Lead site audit preparation and implementation of corrective actions.

Support corporate governance initiatives and risk management programs.

Monitor compliance with company policies, standards, and procedures.

Ensure effective utilization and maintenance of site infrastructure, plant, and equipment.

Monitor asset reliability, availability, and performance, Support lifecycle planning and capital replacement initiatives.

Ensure resources are managed efficiently to support operational goals.

Coordinate maintenance activities with engineering teams to maximize equipment availability.

Prepare and review: Operational reports, Production reports, SHEQT reports, Workforce performance reports, Client reports, Monitor key performance indicators and operational trends.

Present performance updates to senior management and clients, Ensure accurate and timely submission of all required reports.
